1984/7Bulletin / July 1984Special Fund Raising Event / The Fund Raising Group are organising a special event in Horsham on July 16th, & John Warren of A.P.P. will be inviting a number of people who might assist with the development project.
1984/7Bulletin / July 1984Museum Caravan / The travelling display was at the South of England Show from June 7th - 9th. This year our stand again formed part of the Forestry and Wildlife section and Albert Peacock demonstrated spar making during the Show. A great deal of interest was created and the stand looked very well.
1984/7Bulletin / July 1984Horsham/Reigate Project / The Council of Management have authorised the construction of the foundations for this project and the placing of the order for the repair of the frame with Peter McCurdy. This commits the Museum to work valued at

1984/8Bulletin / August 1984Sweatshirts for Staff, Volunteers and Committee Members / From now until the end of September Val Price and Doreen Andrews (the Office Staff) will be taking orders for sweatshirts. Most colours are available in sizes S.M.L.XL.
1984/8Bulletin / August 1984POSTSCRIPTUM / It will be much appreciated if Council of Management Members coming to the Museum during the Festival of Building, (and the other events during the year), would identify themselves, particularly to volunteers. With the extra strains being put upon all concerned, demonstrations of support and interest will be extremely welcome.
1984/8Bulletin / August 1984Special Notes for Stewards / 1) Free Entry to the Museum
Employees of West Dean Estate and of West Dean College are admitted free on production of identification. They must pay for members of their families and friends.
Students of West Dean College will be charged student rates on production of identification.
There has been some misunderstanding on these points and you are asked to operate this rule strictly.
In addition, members of the Museums Association, A.I.M., Museums Federation, South East England Tourist Board, English Tourist Board and Southern Tourist Board are to be admitted free on production of membership cards; friends and family to be paid for at usual rates.

1984/8Bulletin / August 1984Visitor Statistics / 103,000 to the end of July compared with 93,000 for the same period in 1983. Although still 7,000 behind the 1982 record year, it is over 10,000 up on the July 1981 total.
1984/8Bulletin / August 1984Gordon Beningfield Exhibition / This Exhibition by one of Britain's leading countryside artists opens on August 4th and runs until September 2nd. Among the paintings on show will be watercolours of the Museum's buildings, one of which will be of Bayleaf. Gordon Beningfield is most generously assisting the Museum by presenting this Exhibition and by the sales of a limited edition of a print of the 'Bay1eaf' painting.
1984/8Bulletin / August 1984Education / We have joined forces with the WSCST (West Sussex Countryside Studies Trust) for twelve months to produce new material for teachers and schools, in an attempt to improve the quality and use of the resources offered by both organisations. Elizabeth Newbery will be undertaking this work.
1984/8Bulletin / August 1984Summer Workshop / This has been cancelled very regretfully. There was a great deal of late interest, but the general opinion seems to be that building firms are not prepared to allow their people to attend courses during the Summer. It is possible that something similar will be organised for the beginning of next year.
1984/8Bulletin / August 1984Television South / Stuart Nimmo will be filming for TVS the re-erection of North Cray Hall House and the Festival of Building. He has already filmed material with P.J.Tester who was in charge of the dismantling in 1968.
1984/8Bulletin / August 1984Brian Boseley / Brian Boseley has been seconded to the West Sussex County Council/West Dean restoration of the derelict chapel at Binderton.
1984/8Bulletin / August 1984North Cray / Work is on schedule and this house will be erected during the Festival of Building. Roger Champion is painting the timbers red.
1984/8Bulletin / August 1984Horsham/Reigate Project / Footings have been dug and concrete, supplied at very advantageous rates by Pioneer Concrete, poured. The launch of fund raising for the project took place in the Board Room of John Warren's firm of architects (A.P.P.), the hospitality being provided by John. It was a successful evening which we hope will bear fruit in due course.

1984/9Bulletin / September 1984Horsham/Reigate project / The timbers of the Horsham Shop have been transported to the workshops of Peter McCurdy and will be returned in December ready for re-erection.
The foundations of the Shop and the Reigate building are now complete, thanks to Pioneer Concrete Ltd.

1984/9Bulletin / September 1984Late arrival on 5 July 1984 / Congratulations to Richard and Judy Harris on the birth of their son, William, who is currently taking his first trip to the U.S.A.
1984/9Bulletin / September 1984Beningfield exhibition / This has been much enjoyed and the launch evening was greatly enhanced by the contribution from Robert Gittings. Demand for the limited edition print is steady and so far 50 have been sold.
