1988/4 | Bulletin / April 1988 | "ARTIST IN RESIDENCE" / The Artist in Residence scheme, organised by the County Art Adviser, Sylvia Kopecek with the co-operation of Elizabeth Newbery, took place a Goodwood recently with great success. The artist in residence was Zadok Ben-David, a sculptor, who often uses animals as starting points, and involved the shoeing of William at the Museum. Children from two Worthing schools worked alongside Mr Ben-David. |

Chalk floors have been laid in Redvins and Winkhurst, and a new exhibition panel will shortly be erected in Winkhurst explaining the changes. |
1988/4 | Bulletin / April 1988 | EASTER / The best Easter since 1982 set the Museum off to a very encouraging start. 8000 visitors came to the Museum over the weekend, and witnessed the re-erection of Cowfold Barn by Roger and Heather Champion, Paul Russell, Andrew Hodby and Bob White. Their activities have been recorded on video. |

Bob Robinson provided two horses for the Sussex Waggon, and William pulled the Timber Carriage. The horses enjoyed flavour of Lords Cricket Pitch on which they were parked beforehand" |

1988/4 | Bulletin / April 1988 | TOURISM / Over the winter months Richard Pailthorpe has attended a number of Tourism Workshops on behalf of the Museum, including the English Tourist Board's "Excursions" at Wembley and "Moot" at Brighton, as well as "A Day Out in Southern England" organised by the Southern Tourist Board in Portsmouth. He also assisted in the organisation of the Chichester Visitors' Group "Leaflet Exchange" at Goodwood House.
This year the Museum has featured in a special Exhibition entitled "The Pride of West Sussex", co-ordinated by Arun District Council. It has featured in a number of travel trade fairs in the North of England and on the Continent. |

This was followed by a site visit, principally to the Bayleaf area. |

1988/5 | Bulletin / May 1988 | SHEEP DOG TRIALS / 30 shepherds, both local and some travelling from as far afield as Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, competed in the Trials. This is an indication of their increasing popularity. The winners of the two novice classes were Mrs J Marsh from Hassocks and Mr R Edwards from Horsham.
Despite very heavy rain early in the day, 2,150 visitors came and enjoyed both the Trials, including a demonstration of "dog and duck control", and a number of craft demonstrations.

1988/5 | Bulletin / May 1988 | SEMINARS AND SYMPOSIUMS / Elizabeth Newbery and Chris Zeuner recently attended a one day Symposium at St Mary's College, Strawberry Hill at which Robert Hewison, author of the controversial "Heritage Industry" defended his comments and was responded to by a variety of people involved in heritage management. The Symposium launched the new Diploma in Heritage Interpretation with which the Museum will be involved.
On April 27th the Ironbridge Institute held a seminar on 'PAINT' at the Museum. They used Crawley Hall for the day and our caterers, and they seemed well satisfied by what the Museum could offer them. This very specialised seminar was well attended and the Museum hopes that it will be able to provide similar facilities in the future in co-operation with the Ironbridge Institute. |
1988/5 | Bulletin / May 1988 | FRIENDS' TRIP TO CHESTER / This trip, organised by Carol Hawkins, was extremely well supported. It was a great success and participants returned to Sussex having thoroughly enjoyed a very full programme. |

1988/5 | Bulletin / May 1988 | A GOOD START TO THE SEASON! / At the end of April our running attendance total was 27,500 compared with 22,950 in 1987 and 15,146 in 1986. An excellent Easter and good publicity about the Cowfold barn have helped considerably in giving us this encouraging start, which was maintained over the May Bank Holiday. |
