In 2003 the Museum published an Interpretation Stratergy and in 2005 appointed a Head of Interpretation, Hannah Miller. Re-enforces the purpose which is to help our visitors to understand our exhibits using the long-standing tradition of using people to talk to people. Outlines Principles of Interpretation as 1) interpretation on site is through people, activities and dsiplays. 2) Access to background resources will be through the proposed Orientation Gallery. 3) Interpretation is based on the Museum's resources and focused through themes. 4) Authenticity is the key value underpinning all interpretation. The Interpretation Team are responsible for demonstrating activities, provoking a response from a visitor which in turn leads to a desire to learn, revealing the many varied layers to a subject, communicating with visitors by talking to visitors and sharing infromation and memories, and sharing experiences \\

2005/11Magazine / Autumn 2005Creating a timber yard in the Museum's woodland / The timber yard on the edge of the Musem's woodland has recently seen the addition of rack saw, which belongs to staff member Ben Headon, who has kindly re-erected it for use within the yard. A newly acquired treadle lathe has also been installed and a timber crane is being restored to join these items. The timber frame has been with the Collections since 1977, when it was acquired from Basing Home Farm, near Alton, Hampshire. A fixed crane designed to move up to 10 tons at a time, it is hand powered and 6.5 meters in height. It is due to be completed in early 2006.
2005/11Magazine / Autumn 2005Collections update - rat traps and a lethal bench drill / Reports a busy year for the Collections team, with 30 separate items donated and offers received far exceeding this figure. Acquisitions include items relating to Singleton School, rat traps given by David Drummond, a bench drill, a set of barn scales, a seed winnower from Elphick's seed and corn merchants in Lewes, and a milk churn stand which once stood outside a farm entrance in Fittleworth. After display it will be displayed close to the Museum's entrance. The off-site store project moves into it's last six months with the tally of treated items now over 275, there being approx 50 items left to process.

2005/11Magazine / Autumn 2005News in brief / Resume of different events held at the Museum throughout the season including training courses for DEFRA, birthday and anniversary parties, meetings for the Chartered Institute of Builders, an Architecture Week Conference, Sussex Heritage Trust Awards Lunch, Parks and Landscape day for ADC, team building day for the CAA, and the WEA had a creative writing day using the buildings and landscape as inspiration.

In May 2005 the Museum was honoured to be the venue for the 90th anniversary celebrations for the Women's Institute. Despite the wet weather 483 members attended and had an enjoyable day.
2005/11Magazine / Autumn 2005New signage for the Museum site next year / The Museum's signage across the site is to be improved following a 66% grant from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport/Wolfson Foundation. The new sign format will include a picture of the building on it's original site, a few words description about the building,dates of dismantling and re-erection, and maps showing the buildings original location and position within the Museum.

The keynote address was given by Eileen Hooper-Greenhill. Other speakers were teachers from participating schools, Jenna Eastlake of Barclays and Martin Tomlinson of West Sussex CC.
