Both were charities. Now it has been decided to re-combine the two companies. There are now Weald & Downland Open Air Museum Ltd and the trading company Singleton Museum Services Ltd. Both are chaired by David Tomlinson. |

| 2004/4 | Magazine / Spring 2004 | Visitors flock to our events / Gail Kittle reports on the success of the special events in 2003, which were organised by Carol Brinson and supported by Woodland Heritage. The February half-term activities produced 75% more visitors than 2002. Mothering Sunday had 3 times the total number of visitors. The Association of Environmentally Conscious Building will be associated with the Sustainable Building event in 2004. The Heavy Horses Sunday followed the British Heavy Horse Driving Trials Club cross-country driving trials in the Museum and the West Dean Estate. The Early Music Afternoon. The Rare Breeds made up for the drop in the last 2 years due to foot-and-mouth. Over 5000 people enjoyed the Children's Activities, and 4774 people the History Re-enactment Workshop. The Autumn Celebrations were held earlier than usual and over 5,000 visitors attended. The total visitor numbers on event days was 44,630. 18% up on 2002. |

The Swain Collection, donated by Jan and Andy Swain, is of cooper's tools.
Mr P. J. Best farmed in Hazely, near Winchester. His daughter gave the Museum a shepherd's hut, a living van and substantial historical information about the life of her father.
Arthur Plewis was a wheelwright, undertaker and general builder in High Halstow, near Rochester. On his retirement in 1971 he gave the entire contents of his workshop to the Museum. |
