2002/4 | Magazine / Spring 2002 | Re-interpreting Winkhuirst / Winkhurst was dismantled before 1968, and was recorded and analysed by R. T. Mason and R. W. Wood. Then interpreted as "largely complete example of small hall-house". In October 1986 it had a major programme of repairs and further evidence led to complete re-interpretation as an early C16 kitchen. It will be moved to near Bayleaf, fitted as a kitchen. Small modern extensions wil be added on the sides where it had previously been attached. Funding from Designation Challenge Fund and Virginia Lyon's legacy. |
