This represents a good start to the season, especially when we suffered at the hands of the weather over the vitally important Easter weekend. Numbers for the Food Fair were not as good as last year's record total, mainly due to indifferent weather on Easter Sunday. |

| 1993/4 | Bulletin / April 1993 | EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF OPEN AIR MUSEUMS / As you are probably aware, Christopher Zeuner is in his final year as President of the European Association of Open Air Museums. His appointment culminates in the biennial Conference of the Association which takes place in Romania in September. Our Curator, Bob Powell will also be taking part.
During Chris's tenancy, meetings have been arranged on a wide range of subjects bringing together experience from different European museums as well as involving new contacts with museums in the USA. The Association's activities between East and West Europe have developed particularly strongly in the last two years. |

| 1993/4 | Bulletin / April 1993 | PARADES AND SHOWS / With assistance from Bob Dash and his team of horses the Museum Director was able to take the Sussex Wagon to the Regents Park Easter Parade, and we were delighted to receive two First Class Awards.
Peter Albon and Christopher Zeuner also attended the Southern Counties Heavy Horse Association's Spring Working. They took the Museum's timber carriage and used it to provide a demonstration.
On the May Bank Holiday the Museum will have two turnouts at the Portsmouth Parade and will be thoroughly "leafletting" Southsea. |

| 1993/4 | Bulletin / April 1993 | ANIMALS / Tamworth Boar: This boar is on loan from the Rare Breeds Survival Trust following a period of activity in the West Country. He is now resident in West Sussex and awaits bookings from suitably purebred females!
The Sussex cow has produced a heifer, and Rosie is expecting her foal in about two months time, and of course we have numerous lambs springing about the place. |
| 1993/4 | Bulletin / April 1993 | REQUEST FOR EQUIPMENT / Bob Powell and John Herniman would be very grateful to receive any old workshop tools, for use in collection restoration, and any garden tools for site use. (Please note that these tools are not for the collections.)
In addition, Bob would appreciate donations of enamel paint in the primary colours - red, blue, yellow; also green and black enamel paint would be welcome and metal primer.
Another request is for beds and a small three piece suite (in good condition) for the Museum's Hostel. |
| 1993/4 | Bulletin / April 1993 | PETER BURTON LEGACY / The Museum Library has been greatly enhanced by the addition of a large number of books collected by the late Peter Burton. His library on vernacular architecture and museums was extensive and contained many titles not previously available in the Museum Library. |
| 1993/4 | Bulletin / April 1993 | FOOD FAIR / This year's Food Fair attracted in excess of 30 exhibitors and once again there was a high standard of presentation and variety of products. We had a "cheese theme" this year and visitors were able to sample and purchase varieties of cheeses and dairy products from sheep, cows and goats.
Thanks to Jean Piggott and Chris Knights for organising the produce competitions. Chris also kindly judged the entries which totalled over 50. The overall winner was Miss Ison and Keith Bickmore won a prize for his chutney. We would like to see a few more entries next year, so please bear this in mind. |

Sotheby's gave their services free of charge and those who did take their "treasures" were interested - and sometimes delighted! - to hear what the experts had to say. |
| 1993/9 | Bulletin / September 1993 | WOOL AND WOOD DAY / This new event at the Museum covered many aspects of wool and woodland-based crafts such as spinning, sheepdog handling, wood-turning, pyrography, wattle hurdle making, trug making, walking stick making, basket making and working with a pole lathe. The highlight of the day was the conversion of a fleece into a child's sweater during the day - completed by the skin of the teeth! |
