| 1989/8 | Bulletin / August 1989 | FRIENDS' SUMMER PARTY / This event, held on Friday 23rd June, was very well supported, and much enjoyed by the 150 Friends, Trustees, Volunteers and Staff who attended. The weather was fine, and the Ellis'es provided an excellent barbecue, whilst an enthusiastic group of musicians soon had everyone on their feet "barn dancing". |
| 1989/8 | Bulletin / August 1989 | DAVID GOACHER / It is with sadness that we report the untimely death of David Goacher who died recently. David assisted every year with the Museum's harvest and threshing and worked hard for the Museum in other ways from time to time.
A number of David's local friends have asked whether it would be possible to dedicate a bench on the Museum site to his memory. This we intend to do. |

| 1989/8 | Bulletin / August 1989 | (none) / During August it is hoped to stage demonstrations every day at the Museum. Demonstrations will range from the manufacture of replica medieval tiles to hurdle making.
The annual Junior Friends Summer School is at present underway, and much enjoyed by the 40 youngsters attending. The theme is "survival after the greenhouse effect has caused the water levels to rise", and they will build their own shelters in which they will sleep on the last night of the week!
The shop is now stocking some beautiful pewter items, based on the special pewterware commissioned for Bayleaf. In addition horn spoons and mugs are for sale, also based on those in Bayleaf. THESE WOULD MAKE EXCELLENT CHRISTMAS PRESENTS!
The dismantling of the cottages in Holloway Hill, Godalming, will start, provisionally on 4 September.

Despite the heat this was very successful, and particular thanks go to all those who set up the pens and stewarded in the car parks on that day. 4,600 visitors attended - less than last year but still to be considered an enormous success. |

| 1989/8 | Bulletin / August 1989 | FRIENDS OF CHALK PITS MUSEUM and HAMPSHIRE FARM MUSEUM VISIT / On the evening of June 28th our Museum Friends entertained members of the Friends of the Chalk Pits Museum and Hampshire Farm Museum. It provided an opportunity for supporters of the three organisations to get to know each other. |
| 1989/8 | Bulletin / August 1989 | GOODWOOD RACE MEETING / On 16th June Goodwood Racecourse Ltd generously included a race at the Evening Meeting, run under the banner of the Museum, and entitled "The Weald & Downland Museum Stakes". A number of Friends attended and enjoyed the meeting, and our Chairman entertained some new sponsors for the Museum, hopefully cementing relationships with welcome supporters.
Unfortunately no-one can remember either the name of the horse or the jockey who won the race, but an Estate Agent punter who successfully backed them generously donated some of his winnings to Museum funds! |
| 1990/12 | Bulletin / December 1990 | TEMPTING THE TOURIST! / Richard Pailthorpe recently organised a very successful Tourism Forum at Goodwood House on behalf of the local tourism industry. Over 100 members of tourist attractions in the area attended.
The Forum explored relationships between the Portsmouth area and the Chichester area and concluded that there were many opportunities for better co-operation. Hopefully the Forum will lead to ACTION! |

We shall be looking at all aspects of our organisation in order to see whether we can reduce consumption and whether we are using materials that are environmentally friendly.
